Maths Project. Week 9 update.

Every thing is now complete and we have presented our topic. We went 3rd, and unfortunately Kaleb wasn't at school, but Madeleine and I went along with it and compromised anyway. Hopefully we get a good mark. The other topics that were presented that day were;
  • The Golden Ratio
  • Euler's law and
  • Pascals Triangle
All topics were good, interesting and presented really well. All that's left to do now is finish listening to the rest of the presentations and hand in our posters on Friday next week.

I will upload the video we made to go with the presentation as soon as I get a chance, and figure how to do it on iPad.

Math Project. Week 8 update.

So far on our presentations we have supposed to be pretty much ready to present our topics next Friday (and some the week after). My group is almost ready, We just need to;
  • Make our video (that is also my job)
  • Finish the presentation.
  • Finalize the actual speech.
  • And of course, practice.

Madeleine has finished the poster and it looks really good, but that is the only thing currently finished. I can't wait until everything is done and we get to present everything, and see what everyone else has come up with. Hope everything goes well.

Math Project. Week 7 update.

This week was the third week of getting our projects sorted, we now have one week (well technically two) to get everything ready before we have to present it to our whole class.

So far our group has;
  •  very definitely finished research  (finding really cool things about the Theorem, and other things :P )
  • Started to write up the speech (that's my job)
  • Started making the presentation (also my job as we are doing it on my iPad)
  • Started the poster which is now almost complete (Madeleine is in charge of that one)
All that's left to do is finish and finalize everything, make our video, and of course...... Practice everything. Oh and can't forget presenting and handing in our project.

Maths project. Week 6 update

So this week, we pretty much finished research, now we are up to putting together our poster and presentation.
So far I have learnt a few things about the Pythagoras Theorem and maths including:
  • What 'proofs' are. - rather self-explanatory really.
  • The Pythagoras Theorem was technically discovered before Pythagoras actually existed - or at least people (historians mainly) believe it was.
  • There is evidence that the Pythagoras Theorem was discovered/understood by Babylonian, Mesopotamian, Indian and Chinese mathematicians. Some even provided proof.
Anyway, wish us luck for putting everything together.
Keep you updated,
Stay classy :)

Video Tutorials

Quite sometime ago we did video tutorials and we were supposed to upload them to our blogs. I uploaded it to my old one but obviously now I'm uploading it to this one. I hope to do more of these in the future!

Enjoy!

(sorry about the quality of the video)

Cool Maths Video #1

Hey Again,

I found this video on Facebook and had to share it with you all! So I went and found it on Youtube, so here you go.....

Hope this helps!

Maths Blog

Okay, so yes I am obsessed with maths, but not obsessed enough to create my own blog. This is simply a "project-type-thing". (not really but you - hopefully- get the idea)

I am in year 8, and my maths teachers' name is Ms Smith, she started this and suggested for my class to use Edublogs but that drove me slightly insane (I much prefer blogger). This blog will be about maths (obviously) and maths only. I will post cool maths tricks I find, questions, facts and so on.

Hope you enjoy and find this useful!
Merenia the Human Calculator (not really)

Maths projects. Week 5 update

So recently in maths, an idea (not much of an idea, because we had no say in it) was introduced. We were going to start maths projects.

Last week (school week: week 4) we started to research different topics from a list our teacher gave us and put our first 3 preferences on the sheet. This week we were given our groups, explained what we needed to do, and then got stuck into it.

Madeline and Kaleb are the two other people in our group and we are researching the Pythagoras Theorem. At the end of the next 4 Weeks we will be presenting an 8 minute presentation on our topic and the week after a poster (made for high school kids) will be given to our teacher, possibly for display at the end of year. And every week there needs to be a blog update on our progress. Each part is worth ten marks (group marks for the presentation and poster then individual marks for the updates)

But then there is the 'hamartia' - everything has to been done on computers.

This is my first ever maths project, but already it is quite fun.
I'll update you all on our progress next week.
Stay cool!
